At Ipex, Leeds compared Heidelberg's Prinect with the printer's existing Prinergy workflow. The firm said it was impressed with Prinect's automation, modularity and ease of use, so it also bought Printready and Prepress Interface linked to Axis-Control spectrophotometry.
The firm already links its MIS to the press and finishing areas and said it liked the control and business information feedback this offers.
The move from B2 to B1 will enable the printer to more than double its capacity and provide faster turnaround of work, including short runs. The press, which will be delivered in November, will be the first XL 105 in Leeds.
To feed the new press, the firm is moving from a Topsetter 74 to a Suprasetter 105, retaining thermal technology, but benefiting from the high output of the Heidelberg platesetter. Both the CTP and the workflow investments are being funded through a consumables deal. The firm will source its Kodak plates through Heidelberg.
Leeds Press' last four press purchases have all been Heidelbergs.
