Harrods: print catalogue safe

Harrods has put its home shopping catalogue online, but denied that this would lead to the demise of its printed version.

Web station manager Rob Bowyer said he expected the two products to be complementary to one another.

However, Bowyer admitted more catalogues could be sent to greater numbers of customers electronically, saving money on printing and postage. The store's July sale catalogue had a print run of 284,000 and was printed by Artisan.

As part of the shift, the Knightsbridge-based department store has become the first UK customer of US software developer Scene7.
Scene7's technology en-ables Harrods to convert its Sale Preview and Home Shopping catalogues into an e-catalogue format.
