Graphic Arts Systems heralds energy-saving coater

Graphic Arts Systems has praised its latest coating equipment, which it claims uses "less power than a hair-dryer".

The New Jersey, US-based company’s Eco-Flow kit covers two applications: the Eco-Foil lithographic cold-foil printing and the Eco-Cast UV film casting.

According to the supplier, Lithographic cold foil is fully recyclable on a printed substrate and the used foil is rewound in the Eco-Foil system, meaning the polyester portion can be reclaimed and sold to recycling companies.

The Eco-Flow is designed to fit all types of lithographic printing presses up to large format (162cm) presses. The modules run with to a maximum operating speed of 20,000 sheets per hour. Application on web-fed presses is also available.

John Hopkinson, vice president and head of sales and marketing at Graphic Arts Systems, said: "Present foil application units run foil the length of the circumference of the blanket cylinder regardless of the size of the sheet so they use up a lot of rolls.

"We are going to be using multiple roles. In other units, there is only one role per shaft. What we are using are special shafts enabling multiple rolls, which saves on foil."
