Featuring a 14pl drop size and 400m2/hr maximum print speed, the Onset R40i is Inca’s new mid-range model, fitting between the high-quality Q40i, with its 9pl drop and 305m2/hr print speed, and the Onset S40i, which has a 27pl drop and 560m2/hr output.
Tudor Morgan, systems marketing manager, Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems, said: “We’ve had many customers since we launched the Q40i tell us that the quality is exceptional but that the speed was a little low compared to the S40i and we’ve been trying to bridge that gap.”
He added that there was very little difference in quality between the Q40i and R40i, except for printing fine art or high-quality Asian character-based text, but that the 100m2/hr speed improvement with R40i would suit “the majority of printers in the European market”.
Morgan said that a six-colour Onset R40i with 3/4 automated media handling and a spares kit would cost around €1m (around £815,000) and that there was only a marginal difference in price between the Q40i, the R40i and the S40i.
Fujifilm will also demonstrate the 1.6m-wide Vybrant F1600 at Fespa, which is its first hybrid solvent-UV printer, based on the Mimaki’s JV400-160SUV, but featuring Fujifilm’s own ink system.
The four-colour, roll-to-roll printer is aimed at the sign industry and uses Fujifilm’s new FUZE ink, its first to combine a UV-curable component with a water-based solvent. This gives a lower ink build and therefore a very flat and flexible ink film versus conventional UV, enabling sharper images (thanks to lower dot gain) as well as better adhesion with certain materials.
With a list price of around €25,000 the Vybrant F1600 is half the price of Fujifilm’s mid-range Acuity LED 1600, a six-colour printer that can switch between roll and rigid media and is available with clear and white inks or light cyan and light magenta.
