Free press time offer 'a success'

A widely derided promotion, offering five free hours of press time to potential clients, has been hailed as "the most successful campaign we have done" by Bristol-based Kingsdown Printing.

In May, the commercial printer launched the offer giving customers free press time, while paying for consumables and delivery, in the hope that they would sign up for more, paid-for work.

The move was widely criticised on the messageboards of printweek.com, but Becky O'Brien, sales director at Kingsdown, has hailed the success of the promotion.

"We have gained one really good customer as a result of the promotion," she said. "It has more than paid for itself."

She said the overall cost of the campaign was £2,000, which is money that would have been paid out anyway as it was during a quiet period.
