Finisher celebrates half century with kit spend

Allan Good, Hurst & Co, Britains oldest miniature print finisher, is looking forward to its 50th anniversary with a raft of new equipment in its sights.

The firm bought its fourth Herzog+Heymann miniature-folding machine, from UK agent Friedheim International, and fired it up last week.

The KL 112 will handle up to 20,000 items an hour from its new home in Bromley, Kent. It cost around 40,000 and will tackle jobs like mini leaflets for pharmaceutical firms.

Director Bob Good said his business was looking at a 60,000 Bograma 350 punching line, also from Friedheim, or rival kit from GUK, as well as a small knife unit.

I saw the Bograma at Ipex, but theres a possibility well go for the other machine, he said. We are talking prices.

His father, Allan, set up the firm in 1958 from a garage with a Camco W folding machine and Vickers hand stitcher. Bob took over 18 years ago.

Our maximum sheet size is B2 and we can fold down to 10mm including closed-gate multiple concertinas and all traditional folds, said Good.
