The independent German paper mill said it has been forced to implement the surcharge, which will be applied on deliveries from 18 October 2021, “due to the intermediately increased input costs of energy and gas”.

In a statement released today (7 October) the company said the surcharge would remain “until energy and gas levels will come down to a reasonable level”.

It continued: “The surcharge is required to secure continuing production in a situation where energy costs in Europe have increased very rapidly during the last two weeks to an unsustainable level.”

The surcharge follows a previously announced increase in prices for the company’s wet strength label papers by a minimum of 10%, which was effective on all new orders with deliveries from 1 October. The business had already put prices for the same papers up by 8% in April.

Around a year ago Feldmuehle strengthened its management team after trading above plan since it exited its insolvency proceedings at the beginning of 2020.

Based just west of Hamburg, the company currently develops and manufactures high-quality white coated label papers and packaging papers for the German and international markets.
