The blaze, which started last Sunday morning (19 June) around 7.30am, was dealt with by 40 firefighters from West Yorkshire Fire Service. The fire was largely restricted to Enviro Wipes’ finishing department, although smoke spread to other parts of the building.
No employees were on site at the time and no one was hurt at the company, which is based in Barkerend in Bradford.
Local newspaper reports said that the firm's laundry area had been destroyed, but the company said that the damage was "merely cosmetic".
Enviro Wipes' finance director Phil Walker said the company was back in work and at full production by 6am Monday morning.
Walker said: “We have a fire system, which triggers when a fire takes place, so that triggered a callout to one of our team and a callout to the fire brigade who dealt with the fire and that’s it really. It could have been worse, but was just a minor issue."
The fire service reported that at least one van had to be driven out of the building.
Walker said the cause of the fire was currently being investigated by West Yorkshire Fire Service.
He praised the service’s response. “It was fantastic. We are very lucky as they are only 300 yards away from us so they attended, entered the building, dealt with it, let us back in and that’s it,” said Walker.
Walker said the damage to the finishing department will require a minimal spend in order to fix it but that it is “merely cosmetic”.
