EFI launches automatic proof-verification technology

EFI has unveiled a technology to automate proof verification and calibration.

It has also developed Dynamic Wedge, which builds a control strip based on a file’s content on the fly to ensure spot colours can be verified and calibrated.

Automatic verification and calibration simplifies remote proofing by eliminating the need for hands-on measurement and maintenance at remote sites while retaining a guarantee of the proof integrity.

Dynamic Wedge simplifies special colour approvals, which EFI expects will prove of particular interest in packaging proofing.

The tools are included in version 4.0 of its Colorproof XF and Fiery XF proofing and production print packages.

Calibration and verification can be to standards including ISO 12647-7, the proofing part of the international print reproduction standard, or to a custom target.

Automatic calibration takes advantage of the embedded spectrophotometer in the latest Epson printers, the Pro x900 series.

"We think that with its latest technology Epson is changing the proofing market," said product manager Frank Hueske. "It can do linearisation, verification and calibration automatically and label printing support is in the firmware. This is particularly important in remote proofing. My expectation is that sooner or later all printer vendors will follow."
