Duplo develops OPP laminating film for digital

Duplo will use Digital Print World (DPW) to demonstrate a new specialist laminating film for digital print.

It has been designed to adhere to high-silicon content toners as used by colour digital presses. Unlike current special digital laminates it uses Oriented Polypropylene (OPP) film, as used for laminating conventional print rather than the more expensive, albeit more durable, polyester and nylon films.

Using the new film should help cut finishing costs for digital print, while ensuring the products are compatible.

"While the new digital OPP film will be cheaper than other digital films, the fact that it has been specially formulated for the digital market means that there will be a slight premium over non-digital OPP film," said Duplo International group marketing manager Ashley Whitworth. "It will work very well with non-digital products, but probably not the best option for longer run work."

The film is just part of the firm's exhibit, which Whitworth termed "practical, modular real world finishing solutions digital printers need now".
