The Redline has mainly been installed by commercial print companies – notably SMP Screen – but Tri-Pack is using the die-cutter to seal the edges of polypropylene packs, using its patented Coolseal process.
The Redline machine is built in South Korea and sold in the UK by Manchester-based Diecut UK, which is led by Steve Waterhouse, the former Crosland sales director.
Waterhouse, who set up Diecut UK in May 2009, said the versatility of the Redland made it suitable for many applications, from fully automatic jobs to manual mode for short runs and "tricky substrates".
He is also targeting printing companies that need extra finishing capacity to cope with the output of new litho presses.
Tri-Pack's semi-automatic flatbed Redline is the RL-1700 model, which offers a maximum sheet size of 1,200x1,720mm. Tri-Pack's machine also features CCTV coverage of each section so the operator can follow the progress of the substrate as it passes through.
Before purchasing the Redline, Tri-Pack managing director Stephen Clarke travelled to South Korea to ensure the machine would meet his firm's "very testing application".
Tri-Pack's 100% recyclable Coolseal packs are sent to countries including Iceland and the Faroe Islands. They can be stored flat then assembled just-in-time for fresh seafood, which is sent by air freight to British and European supermarkets.
