The additional kit, which was supplied by Friedheim International and installed last month, has joined existing MBO and Palamides machinery at the Saltash, Cornwall-based firm’s 2,600sqm site.
“We’ve already got an MBO K8 and another B30 so we were previously putting this work through those machines,” said managing director Sam Shannon, adding the new kit has instantly reduced operator fatigue, helping them to keep a further eye on quality.
“We wanted to try and take some of the stress off our operators, as running an eight- or 12-hour shift on a machine at high speed means that your operator gets tired.”
“When we were doing 2-up folding work, we were losing speed as the operator couldn’t keep up with the machine.
“Ultimately, the new kit gives us higher speed and higher quality, while also reducing the level of fatigue on operators. For us, this means our operators are fresher and happier to run the kit faster; we’ve got more speed as the operator has more time.”
He added the Palamides device gives the business time to make boxes and keep an eye on quality.
“If you’re running at high speeds and you don’t have a stacker of that quality, you’re not able to check the folds or keep an eye on all the quality aspects of the job.”
The business looked at a range of alternatives from other manufacturers but ultimately opted to return to previous supplier Friedheim International, which Shannon said “have real strength in knowledge”.
“They also have knowledge of our business in terms of what we are trying to achieve and what products were the right fit for us.”
The company also upgraded its Tharstern MIS in November to add intelligent print estimating tool Estimate Pro. Shannon said this has resulted in “slicker, more accurate and faster” estimates for the business.
Deltor Communications turns over £4m and also operates a Komori GL-540, which was installed just over a year ago, a Manroland 700 HiPrint perfector, and a full line-up of finishing kit including perfect and PUR binding, folding and laminating.
