Deanprint’s operations director Kevin Lee said the company was very pleased with the performance of the new guillotines over the older Polars they replaced in 2015, so it was a natural step to turn again to Friedheim-supplied Baumann-Wohlenberg when the company wanted to replace two more Polar legacy machines.

“This provides us with uniform skills and quality processes from one machine to another, and enables us to transfer cutting programs from machine to machine when required,” said Lee.

Deanprint boasts more than 100 pieces of finishing equipment and six years ago the company committed to replace all major items of kit. This latest purchase completes that re-equip programme, though Lee said the business would continue to look for new devices that could increase efficiency.

The £2.7m-turnover business started trading in the 1890s, and has been operating from its purpose-built Stockport factory since 1920.

It divides its time equally between government, educational and trade customers and its 42 employees provide a range of printing, folding, trimming, sewing, perfect binding and wire-binding services, as well as producing boxes, slip cases, folders and ring binders. 

Most of its work is two-colour printing in runs ranging from 1,000 to 100,000 sheets, with case-bound book runs of 100 to 3,000 the most common.

As well as producing all the binders for Births, Deaths & Marriage registers throughout the UK, Deanprint also makes teacher and student planners, appointment books, accounts books and diaries.

It has also fulfilled orders for condolence books for international embassies, and re-binding of books such as council death registers.
