Cubbon also revealed that Martin Fothergill, PaperlinX UK and Ireland regional president, is to take over as NAPM president in 2006, in what he described as a "brave move".
In his opening address at the NAPM's annual dinner last Thursday, Antalis UK managing director Cubbon argued that "change is accelerating" across the paper supply chain, often in numerous small increments.
It was the merchant's responsibility to plan for changes or face extinction, Cubbon said, citing the falling number of merchants in recent years.
"Of course, some merchants are doing well... but relaxing on the most comfortable deck chair on the Titanic is not a good idea," he added.
