German packaging group Colordruck Baiersbronn was announced as a Landa beta site for package printing at Drupa last year.

However, in Landa’s recent announcement about its revised programme of beta sites, the firm was not mentioned.

Black Forest print firm Colordruck Baiersbronn installed an HP Indigo 30000 press for digital packaging last year, and is now set to be among the first customers to receive a Primefire 106, the high-end B1 inkjet press launched by Heidelberg at Drupa.

Heidelberg said the deal had followed “intensive technical testing” and said it had received interest in the press from packaging printers around the world.

The manufacturer cited “strong competences in the packaging market, outstanding colour and printing quality, accompanied by the service promise and reliability of the Heidelberg brand” as key deciding factors.

Colordruck Baiersbronn managing director Martin Bruttel said the Primefire would be used to exploit new business models, He said the future would increasingly involve “mass customisation of packaging”.

Heidelberg said the press would be installed before the end of the year.

The Primefire 106, a joint development with Fujifilm, prints in seven-colours at 1,200x1,200dpi, and at up to 2,500sph. 

The first Primefire user will also be a German packaging printer - the Obersulm site of global packaging group Multi Packaging Solutions is set to install its press within the next month.
