Cosmo Films to buy US rival

Indian film manufacturer Cosmo Films is to buy US rival GBC Commercial Print Finishing.

A deal for the ACCO Brands Corporation-owned company is expected to go through by the second quarter of 2009.

In the UK, Cosmo’s products are distributed by Graphic Image Films (GIF), while GBC equipment is handled by the company itself. It is unclear how the two companies will work together.

Sandro Mosquera, sales director at GIF, told PrintWeek: We look forward to continuing the growth of our business with the support of Cosmo Films.

With a wide range of quality films, high stock levels in the UK, excellent converting facilities and excellent service, we are perfectly placed to continue servicing the market and offer our clients exactly what they need from us.

GBC did not wish to comment on the investment.

Cosmo Films specialise in Bi-axially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) and thermal lamination films. The company has a global turnover of around $140m (£97m).

GBC has a turnover of around $100m (£68m). The company provides thermal lamination films and equipment to Europe, North America, Japan and the Pacific Rim. It has three manufacturing sites – Hagerstown in Maryland, USA, Kerkrade in Netherlands and Asan in Korea.
