Colourworld aims to grow turnover by bringing B1 in-house

Colourworld has brought more than 500,000 worth of print back in-house after investing in its first B1 press, a 10-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster.

The press is expected to help drive the company's expansion in coming years with turnover set to rise to £3.2m this year from last year's £2.3m figure.

Winchester-based Colourworld has installed the SM 102 perfector, which complements a new Heidelberg Suparasetter and a soon-to-be-delivered Stahlfolder KH 78.

According to managing director Andy Tyler-Smith, the B1 press, which replaced an existing six-colour machine, will allow the printer to bring more work under its own roof.

He said: "We have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of work we’re doing and when we found we were putting out about £50,000 of B1 print each month we felt it was time to invest.

"Subsequently, we have added a further 40% of B1 work and the growth continues."

The 42-staff company, which handles work for around 3,000 clients such as Vodafone and Hampshire County Council, has also invested in a Suprasetter CTP device to output Saphira plates for its 10-colour and existing five-colour XL Heidelberg press.

The Suprasetter can output up to 33 plates an hour, which is claimed to offer almost double the productivity of its previous Agfa Acento machine.

In addition, Colourworld will take delivery of a Stahlfolder KH 78 this month. "It is a great machine – very quick to set up, very easy to operate and, with its continuous feeder and stacker, it’s very efficient and keeps our saddlestitcher well fed in a timely manner," Tyler-Smith said.

As well as the trio of new investments, the company has expanded its Winchester site by 743sqm, increasing its total floorspace to around 1860sqm.
