Cliftons installs UK's first Pronto papering machine

Cliftons Print Finishers has installed the UK's first Tecnograf Pronto end sheet papering machine, after the manufacturer adapted the product.

The Friedheim-supplied machine was customised by Tecnograf so that it could accommodate A3 size, increasing its versatility.

Managing director Tim Clifton said: "The Pronto has completely changed our way of working, particularly in respect of time, effort and cost benefits, due to the fact that it has managed to reduce four processes into just one.

"Before the arrival of the Pronto we could ideally only handle certain jobs that involved up to 100 copies at any one time, but with the new machine we are now capable of competing for jobs with numbers up to 1,000."

Cliftons provides a range of services, particularly focusing on binding both hard and soft cover publications. Around 70% of the company's output is PUR and perfect-bound work, with a further 20% casing in.

The company was formed in 1998 in Tottenham, London, relocating to its present site in nearby Walthamstow the following year. It currently employs 11 staff, with four additional part-time workers.
