This is Phillips’ ninth year at the council. She initially joined as a word processor, before moving into monochrome print production. Here, she took responsibility for the new reprographics department and its expanding digital print shop.
In April, Phillips was tasked with operating the council’s offset operation. She now controls a team of 30, three of whom work in the digital print room.
Speaking about how she chose Infotec (formerly Danka) for the council’s hardware, Phillips said: “We investigated and looked at all the copiers on the market and visited other authorities to look at the software they used. The key questions we had to ask were whether we were happy with the equipment, and did it meet our IT infrastructure.”
Initiatives employed by the council include a system called WebTicket, which allows staff to send jobs directly to print, minimising intervention in the print room. Also popular is PrintShop Mail, used to create documents like council tax statements.
“We identified the need for more data work as it really started taking off,” says Phillips, who also handles personalised mailings for Bolton at Home, the body responsible for managing around 18,500 council properties. These mailings are churned out by three Infotec IS2105 monochrome production printers, which offer online finishing capabilities.
