The new chief of St Ives subsidiary Clays has revamped the management team at the East Anglian book printer.

Pat Martell, who replaced Gary Iceton as managing director in July, described the changes as a very positive move, and said it was "business as usual and we move forward from here". He was quiet on ambitions for the 50m-turnover division.

An ongoing planning judicial review has held up Clays'' plan to move to a greenfield site near Bungay, but Martell was open-minded on the eventual outcome. The future was "more about investing in the business than building a new shed".

Martell was promoted from manufacturing director and has appointed Angus Campbell to replace him.

Campbell, a former CPI general manager, said he joined because St Ives was a major player and it was an interesting time to join. He worked for Clays six years ago, and spoke of "frustrations" at CPI without elaborating.

Andrew Clay, formerly sales director at St Ives''s direct response operation in Edenbridge, joins sales director.

Kate Mcfarlan, has been made customer services director, from associate director.

Sarah Okell, the sales and customer services director who is also Martell''s wife, is leaving in March 2001 and hasnt finalised her future plans, said Martell.
