Clanpress upgrades bindery to bring more work in-house

Commercial printer Clanpress has upgraded its bookletmaking with a Duplo System 5000, easing a bottleneck in the bindery.

According to managing director John Drohan the firm’s five-colour Heidelberg MO, two-colour Heidelberg MO and Xerox machine were leaving its existing bookletmaker behind, with a large chunk of work outsourced.

He said: "We look after a lot of local authority print work, and they have a wide mixture of jobs from short, medium to long runs. It was previously uneconomical for us to pitch for the longer run work, as our in-house capability couldn’t cope."

The System 5000 consists of two DC-10/60 10-bin suction collator towers, a DBM-500 stitch and fold bookletmaker and DBM-500T fore-edge trimmer.
