Charity initiates penal training

The Howard League for Penal Reform, the oldest penal reform charity in the UK, is to undertake a feasibility study to look at providing print equipment and training for prisoners.

A spokeswoman said it was too early to provide any details on how many prisons it was considering.

The Prison Enterprises Industries and Farms already provides print and DTP training at a number of institutions. A spokesman said he was unaware of the Howard League's initiative, but stated: "We run a 55m business providing prison employment. There are thousands of initiatives announced every month, so it will be interesting to see if this develops."

Five prisons in England and Wales - Maidstone, Leyhill, Blunderston, Norwich and Kingston - offer conventional print training for inmates, while HMPs Everthorpe and Albany offer training on DTP equipment.
