CFI reports major drop in plate output errors with Heidelberg's Prinect workflow

Financial printer Chris Fowler International (CFI) said it has more than halved plate output errors following the installation of Heidelberg's Prinect Printready pre-press workflow.

CFI, which installed the workflow at the start of the summer, has reported a significant increase in imaging reliability since the installation, thanks to a 68% fall in plate output errors, down to 0.37% in July.

Services manager Bryan Terry said: "We are always looking to reduce our waste in all areas and to see the drop in waste plates so soon after installation has been fantastic, but this will also reduce paper and utility waste."

The company, which was recently acquired by Spanish print giant Service Point Solutions for €12m (£9.5m), chose Heidelberg's system after trialling two rival manufacturers' products.

CFI said the strength of the Signa Station imposition tool was the single greatest benefit of the Heidelberg workflow: "We have been really impressed by Signa Station and the ease of use of the cockpit."

The London-based business, which outputs around 15,000 B2 plates a month, is now considering investing in additional Prinect modules, including Heidelberg's Pressroom Manager, Digital Print Manager and digital planning board.

CFI managing director Kevin Eyers added that the printer is currently implementing a new global MIS and accounting system.

He said: "While I believe that we are one of the most efficient printers in the UK, continual cost and efficiency improvements are key to our success; we have to improve the service we offer to our clients.

"This improvement to workflow is just one part of an ongoing system enhancement programme."
