The gluer, which was installed at the corrugated cardboard and solid board container manufacturer’s Liverpool site this month, was supplied by Kolbus Autobox.
It joins a fleet of converting machinery, including an older Autobox, and enlarges the range of gluing capabilities CEG Packaging is able to offer.
The machine is suited to both short and long run lengths and on a straight-line job, has an average speed of 1,500 boxes per hour.
It can glue side seam cases and carry out work such as three-point die-cutting and crashlock bottom boxes.
Colin Graham, managing director at CEG Packaging, said he was particularly impressed by the gluer’s speed, which far outstripped that offered by his existing semi-automatic, foot pedal-operated gluer.
He said: “We do a lot of die-cut work here, sometimes three-point crashlock which is a nightmare to convert by hand.
“The batches would vary each day, so we needed something that was quick to set, easy to use and had a good hourly output.
“Kolbus Autobox delivered the machine quickly. On our first day, we were running an 0201 at 1,800 per hour.
“This job normally took us six- to eight-hours to run. It was done in under two hours on the MultiNova.”
“Investing in a UK-manufactured product was also a big selling point.”
Arran Sethi, Kolbus-Autobox UK sales manager, added: “The Kolbus Autobox MultiNova MN400 is the perfect machine for Colin. I really think it will free up a lot of his operator’s time as well as bring in house more crashlock work. I’m looking forward to working closely with Colin and seeing how his workload develops from here”.
