The largest Xcalibur currently available, the VLF 80, has a maximum plate format of 2,030x1,475mm. But Capital's model is the first to be able to handle the plate size of the super-large Rapida 205, which has a maximum sheet size of 2,050x1,510mm and a maximum print area of 2,050x1,490mm.
Agfa is understood to have several orders for the supersize Xcalibur, whose launch will allow the firm to compete in the ultra-VLF niche dominated by Lscher with its Xpose! 190.
Agfa and Capital were tight-lipped on the installation.
Capital's Rapida 205 started arriving a fortnight ago at the East London company, and should be commissioned by the end of the summer. It is the second such press in the UK. The first was installed at the beginning of the year at point-of-sale and display specialist Augustus Martin.
Commissioning of the press will mark a major milestone for 12m-turnover Capital as it forms a key plank in its 14m move to new 12,500sqm premises in East London.
