Canon introduces two ImagePress printers

Canon has pulled off one of the most eagerly awaited launches of Ipex 2006 as it pushes into the print market.

Its two new machines, along with 75% of the products on its stand, were revealed for the first time at the event.

"The technology we are bringing to the market will help change our customers' businesses," said Canon Professional Solutions European marketing director David Preskett.

The ImagePress C7000VP, formerly the ImagePress X, was the star of the stand, with its hourly 15-minute demos booked solid for the first four days of the show. It is a 70 A4ppm cut sheet colour press that prints on stocks up to 300gsm at rated speed for all weights.

Available in Q4 with a range of feed and finishing options, a typical configuration with a new EFI Fiery front end will cost 175,000 (250,000).

"It's a true digital colour press, there is no compromise," said Preskett.

One industry analyst said the machine's speed, specification and price put it head-to-head with Xerox's DocuColor 8000.

Canon also took the wraps of the ImagePressC1, previously the ImagePress Y. This is a A4 14 ppm printer with an SRA3 sheet size. The kit will cost 35,000 when it ships in the summer.
