The journal and magazine specialist, which is shortlisted in the environmental category at this year’s PrintWeek Awards, believes it is the first UK commercial printer to make a wholesale move to certified stock.
Cambrian Printers commercial director Martin Koffer said: “This has been very much driven by our customers. Publishers can no longer be seen to be printing on standard stock. Those outside print and publishing are becoming more environmentally aware.”
The Welsh firm’s chairman and managing director Robert Read added that the move to make FSC its ‘house sheet’ would come at no additional cost to its customers.
Cambrian Printers, which buys its FSC stock from Howard Smith Paper, received FSC and PEFC certification in July 2006. The firm also holds ISO 14001 and Green Dragon Level Five environmental accreditations.
Koffer said: “We are continuously on the lookout for what we can do next. We do believe that we are ahead of our competitors on this.
“The FSC move is being rolled out gradually – this certainly hasn’t been a big bang.”
He added: “The contract means our customers will be able to give their own customers the assurance of an FSC product and use the FSC logo on publications.”
