Buxton specified the perfect binder, installed by MAN Roland GB last month, with 12 feeders plus a cover.
The firm said it spent six months looking for an "eco-friendly binding system of proven reliability, offering high capacity and increased efficiency, including lower power consumption and reduced paper wastage".
Other features on the fully automated PUR and hot-melt adhesive line, which can handle book thicknesses from two to 50mm, include an OCR interface and on-line diagnostics.
Buxton has linked the 6,000cph binder to its dust-recovery briquetting compactor.
Buxton said the City e, which sports Buxton's corporate colours, has doubled perfect-binding output at its Derbyshire base.
