BPIF chief sings the praises of Ipex and printing

The BPIFs new chief executive Michael Johnson was left "with a feeling of great pride" following his first visit to Ipex.

"This is one of the flagship, if not the flagship, printing events in Europe. Its hugely impressive and overwhelming. And it reflects us being the fifth largest manufacturing industry," he said.

Johnsons overriding impression of the show was that "print is transforming itself into a new world of IT and connectivity".

Johnson said he had also been impressed by the quality of the visitors he had encountered at the NEC. "The concern seemed to be that the show was a bit quiet in parts. I dont hold with that. Its the quality of visitors that is key, and the quality is there," said Johnson.

Creo, Heidelberg, PrintCity and Hewlett-Packard/Indigo were among his favourite exhibits. "Creo has some very simple messages and they communicated them well.

"HP/Indigo was pure entertainment, but it got over the message to the audience in a way that was powerful," he said.

"And Id like to know more about the DICOweb it looks like a train!"
