The limited run of 250 copies of ‘The Art of Whisky’ was wrapped in sheet copper to mirror the copper stills used for the distilling of this ‘liquid gold’. The company had to source sheets of very thin copper that it could wrap around the case cover and then apply a deep blind deboss. Judges said the book was “breathtaking in terms of print and production values”. However, they were even more impressed by a special edition of Roald Dahl’s classic story The Witches. The company’s production team showed off their traditional binding skills and the finishing team worked throughout the night and over a weekend to deliver the books, which resulted in an understandably ecstatic client.
Highly commended
The work that really stood out for the judges in this submission was the 1,000 units it produced for Marcus Lyon. The book featured the results of DNA tests with willing models who were interviewed and photographed to discover their genetic make-up. Using its unique Vivid Colour process Boss was able to achieve super fine detail and colour quality on uncoated paper, which one judge said was “among the best I’ve ever seen”.
Judges were blown away by the “really impressive work” Generation submitted. A good example of the company’s skills was a book to accompany an exhibition by Kaws in New York that saw the company work with a designer, gallery staff and the artist himself. This collaboration included Kaws sending swatches and samples of the neon paint used in his paintings that Generation mixed by hand to produce a perfect match before printing.
