The firm’s media distribution deal with Epson, which was first revealed earlier this year, has been formalised with the product being shipped in Epson branded boxes via the large-format printer manufacturer’s dealer channel.
According to Epson Europe LFP supplies product manager Frans Craandijk it is its first cooperation with a third-party vendor and is the result of 18 months joint development.
The BioMedia Epson range is available in uncoated versions for its GS6000 eco-solvent machine and coated versions for its water-based ink products. Available grades include 200 micron, 350 micron, 500 micron, 750 micron and Bio Banner. The substrates include a microorganism that causes them to break down in dark and damp conditions. Biomedia has recently confirmed that in addition to the products being biodegradable they can also be recycled in standard plastics waste streams.
"Its environmental characteristics are right up there now that it is recyclable and biodegradable," said BioMedia sales director Mark Sanderson. "Now we just need to get the message out there to the market.
Aside from its Epson deal the firm has also launched three additions to its BioRigid range of boards for UV printing in 1, 1.5 and 3mm thicknesses that are less dense, and therefore more cost effective.
In addition to its work with Epson the firm has been working with other equipment vendors and claims to have good results with all water-based, eco-solvent and solvent machines it has tested.
The materials are also approved for HP’s smallest latex machine the Designjet LS25500 and are currently being tested with the larger LX600 and LX800.
