The union is taking action over a nationwide pay freeze across the company's 12 sites, announced in November last year.
Due to the current holiday season, the ballot is expected to last for around three weeks to ensure everyone is given their chance to vote.
The ballot includes a number of options, including strike action.
Unite said it is balloting its members due to the way Trinity Mirror went about implementing its pay freeze.
In the past, the company has negotiated pay rises on a site by site basis, rewarding better performing facilities, the union said.
However, rather than freeze the pay of poorly performing sites and negotiate with others, a pay freeze was announced across all sites.
