The judges said they were looking for someone special, and in Baden, they found it with an interview that was every inch as good as his manager and assessor testimonials.
He stood head and shoulders above the other high-quality candidates, and deserves recognition for all he has achieved since starting in 2007, said one judge.
They remarked on his passion and enthusiasm, which marks him out as an example to other apprentices, and his leadership qualities, which have been identified by his employers, who see him as a future manager in the business.
An emerging leader… he’s established himself as a technical expert in the bindery who is able to transfer his knowledge and to train other crew members, including those twice his age, remarked another judge.
Baden was also praised for his initiative. An example of which includes coming in on his day off to gain a wider understanding of the whole business.
After a few false starts in other careers he has found his vocation and loves his job and the print industry.
Highly commended
Christopher Head
His quick progression from the bindery to running a Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 showed Christopher’s aptitude and keenness to progress. While his friends complain that they have work tomorrow, he says can’t wait – I love it. Described as well organised, passionate and a team player his entry stood out, especially his ability to contribute to the company’s business objectives and profitability.
Ryan Moore
Ryan brought a calming influence to the pre-press department, according to his manager. He has a sound understanding of personal responsibility while being a good team player. An example of his self-motivation and willingness to learn includes producing a guide to pre-press and origination to gain further understanding of the process and to share his knowledge with others.
