With the help of Adverset Display, the wide-format display arm of Scarborough-based design and print company Adverset Media Solutions, and Coala Supertack vinyl from Antalis UK, the previously dull environment was transformed into a bright and welcoming space.
What did the job entail?
Adverset was approached by the sales team at Escape 2 The Sands and tasked with the brief to make the booking office of the apartment complex more attractive to customers by revamping its white breeze block wall. “Being directly on the seafront gave us the inspiration and vision to create a vibrant, tropical underwater theme,” said Adverset managing director John Easby. Adverset looked for a substrate that would properly stick to the outline of the breeze blocks and were introduced by Antalis to 96 micron satin white polymeric high-grade calendered high-tack vinyl Coala Supertack.
How was it produced?
Adverset designed and then printed the imagery onto 30m2 of the Coala Supertack vinyl using an HP Latex 360 printer. The vinyl was then installed on the wall over the course of two days using a heat gun and a rubber squeegee to mould it into the shape of the brickwork.
What challenges were overcome?
The biggest challenge for Adverset was ensuring that each section lined up when the vinyl was applied to the wall. “You remove the adhesive backing, position each strip on the wall with a light touch and then heat the material in with a heat gun. The strip of vinyl moulds to the shape of the bricks and then you overlap the next piece and repeat the process. There’s some movement when you heat it in so it’s quite tricky but the result is amazing,” said Easby.
What was the feedback?
Escape 2 The Sands director Rachel Dean said: “Adverset carried out a superb job on our office feature wall. From the initial design process through to installation it was a first class job. The feature wall looks amazing and makes the office feel like a really unique place to work.”
