135 staff made redundant at Alden Hendi sites

Administrator KPMG has made 135 staff at Alden Hendi redundant across both of its sites.

KPMG was appointed as administrator for the book and commercial printer on Tuesday afternoon after attempts to sell the company over the last month were unsuccessful.

Last week, 106 staff at Witney and a further 29 at London were let go.

Administrator Mark Orton said: "It is disappointing but unavoidable that we are unable to continue trading across the two Alden Hendi sites and have had to make a substantial number of staff redundant.

"We are currently working with government agencies to ensure the employees' issues are dealt with as quickly as possible and are now continuing with some very limited trading to finalise orders for customers."

Staff were not paid for the month of November and a venture capital company rumoured to be interested in a buyout reportedly pulled out because it did not want to cover staff back pay.

Hendi Group acquired Alden Group in June of this year and made 30 staff at the London plant, formerly Alden, redundant in August of this year.
