However, as our survey highlights, its importance continues to grow in terms of winning and placing work – and therein lies the rub.
While everyone wants to be heard to be singing from the green hymn sheet, according to the printers that completed the survey, clients are less likely to be prepared to pay for the privilege right now.
So why bother, I hear you ask. Simple: because the environment and managing costs go hand-in-hand and in these testing times, cost management has never been more important.
Add to that the fact that, in the not-so-distant future, you could be fined for not cutting your energy use or carbon emissions, then the need to be green will soon be a necessity rather than a luxury.
So while spending oodles of cash on installing a 150-foot wind turbine or smothering your roof with solar panels might be out of the question right now, the adage ‘small change, big difference’ seems to make sense for creating and maintaining both a healthy business and a better environment.
And the former is always appealing, whatever the economic climate.
