Q&A: Scott Pearce, managing partner, Datum

Scott’s print career is approaching the 30-year landmark, having begun with a work experience stint that turned into a rather more permanent occupation and ultimately co-owner of the company. He’s 44, married with six-year-old twin boys, and enjoys travelling and photography in his spare time.

Why did you get into printing? 

I went to Datum on a week’s work experience. Somehow, 28 years later, I’m still here

What would be your dream job? 

International food and wine critic

What would you most like to print? 

Ikea catalogue, just the yearly print run of 208 million copies

Forrest Gump

What is your favourite TV programme? 

Dragons’ Den

Who or what do you hate the most? 

I dislike a lot of things, but I don’t hate anything

Who do you admire most in the industry? 

Gary Mahoney, formerly of Charterhouse – his company had a big impact on our business

Have no fear of perfection, you will never reach it

What is your favourite album? 

Michael Jackson’s Thriller or Abbey Road by The Beatles – it depends what mood I’m in

What is your greatest luxury in life? 

Time with my family

What is your greatest ambition? 

For my children to have opportunities and to have a happy life enjoying whatever they choose to do

Printing presses with a larger colour gamut closer to RGB

In Dubai setting up our new remote Datum office
