Q&A: Amanda Dickinson Managing director Rethink CMYK

Amanda had something of an OMG moment upon realising that she’s spent 31 years in print, culminating in her current position as managing director at Barnsley-based Rethink CMYK. She’s married to Joel and they have two children Seth and Gabrielle. Her hobbies include laughing uproariously.

What is your nickname?

Pandy

Why did you get into printing?

Totally by accident. After my A levels I applied for three jobs, got all three and chose Hunters Armley in Leeds, as it looked the most interesting and was only a 10-minute walk from my house. Starting salary £3,500

What would be your dream job?

I am lucky enough to be doing it now

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

Nicole Kidman. If only I had her lovely long legs

What is your favourite film?

Elf is an annual favourite

What is your favourite TV show?

The Walking Dead. If there is ever a zombie apocalypse I want to be only one step behind Daryl Dixon

Who do you admire most in print?

I have a ton of respect for Simon Biltcliffe. I love his energy

What is your favourite saying?

‘If it doesn’t make us money or save us money then the answer is no.’ This is mostly said to my husband Joel

What is your favourite album?

Apparently I have the worst taste in music, but you can’t beat a bit of cheesy pop or twangy country

What book are you reading at the moment?

I always have an audio book on the go. I’m currently listening to The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty and really enjoying it

Cat or dog?

I love both. I have always been cat person, but we live by a busy road so that is no longer possible. We currently have a Hermann’s tortoise called Toddels and a crazy-as-a-loon, seven-month-old boxer called Bonnie. What were we thinking!

What is your greatest luxury in life?

A super hot bubble bath and a glass of Champagne

Who or what makes you laugh?

Everything and everyone. I love a good laugh! I am very lucky to have such funny and interesting people in my life, Joel, my children, my amazing team at Rethink, and fabulous friends

Most embarrassing moment?

I own all of my embarrassing moments with pride. As previously stated, I love a good laugh

Where would you like to be now?

On an adventure with my family

What’s your worst fashion disaster?

Pretty much my whole wardrobe since birth

Which superpower would you like?

To read minds

Who would be your favourite party guests?

My sisters, they always have me howling with laughter

Where would you go if you could time-travel?

To the future to check on my children and be there for them if they need me

What advice would you give to your teenage self?

If someone bets you 50p to drink a half pint of whisky, don’t do it!

Life is…

An adventure, sometimes it’s thrilling, sometimes it’s scary, but appreciate and enjoy every moment.
