The 1,300bph binder will replace a 30-year-old 500bph Sulby 1250 three-clamp perfect binder.
Bind quality and ease of use were key selling points along with efficiency, said Y Lolfa production manager Paul Williams.
“The quality is second to none,” he said. “It’s all automatic and much more operator friendly. So where before only one operator could run the binder we’re now having three people trained on it.”
The BQ-470’s production speeds, quick makeready times and low-waste set-ups would enable this £1m-turnover Welsh language specialist printer and publisher to attract new short-run book work, added Williams.
To support this, the company is set to sign for a new Xerox J75 printer to add to its stable of a B2 Komori five-colour and B2 Komori two-colour presses, in the next few weeks.
“The BQ-470 will bring new customers because a lot of people want on-demand books these days,” said Williams. “On this binder we can change the set-up in seconds.”
The Horizon BQ-470 was launched just before Drupa 2012, with around 40 currently installed in the UK.
The company has also secured a £40,000 sale of a AFC-566 A folder at Ipex. The folder is going to Sunderland-based printer Where the Trade Buys.
