Exciting times.
And to celebrate the fact, this is a doubly exciting issue, featuring another debut, our first non-PrintWeek interview.
In an, albeit very temporary, switch from our usual format – this issue’s interview with Quad/Graphics supremo Joel Quadracci was conducted by EFI chief executive Guy Gecht at the recent Connect user conference, which the PrintWeek team was fortunate enough to be invited to.
The Quad story is an incredibly interesting one, not least because in less than 50 years, the family firm has evolved from a leased press and borrowed binder to a global business with sales nearing $5bn.
None too shabby by anyone’s standards.
But the most interesting thing was listening to Quadracci speak. For a start because his responses weren’t littered with the kind of language and terminology you might expect from the head of multi-billion-dollar business.
Secondly, because he was very frank in his views on the challenges facing his business. Of course, that’s a luxury that is probably best afforded by a big business leader, but even so, it’s still a rare thing.
And finally, most refreshingly of all, because many of the challenges and opportunities he highlighted were as applicable to the smallest SMEs as they are to the industry’s biggest players.
So I think you’ll agree that taking a step out of our comfort zone for this issue’s interview was well worth a punt.
Because, as Quadracci himself hints: if you don’t try something new, you’ll never know if you’re missing out.
