The company invested in the press, which cost around £700,000 and was installed just before Christmas, with the aim of using both Komoris in tandem.
West Sussex-based Selsey Press, which was founded in 1963 and has 22 staff, works with a range of clients including financial institutions, local authorities, charities, galleries, hotel chains and publishers. In 1986 it became one of the first companies in the UK to operate full MIS networking when it installed a Tharstern system – which the company has regularly upgraded – and which interfaces between management, pre-press, its two Lithrone presses and a Heidelberg six-colour Speedmaster.
The company, which has a strong environmental ethos and holds FSC, PEFC and ISO14001, as well as ISO12647-2 and ISO9001 accreditations, has been running alcohol-free presses for more than six years and also uses vegetable-based inks and carbon-balanced paper.
Selsey Press managing director Derrick Tyler said: "We're in the early stages of working with the new machine and we had a really good day on it yesterday.
"Our aim is to have every job which leaves here certified beyond requirements. This ensures that we keep striving towards continually higher quality and even greater environmental awareness. To this end, we have installed Bodoni’s pressSIGN to ensure correct and consistent colour, and we’re now looking forward to minimising our paper waste through the KHS-AI fast make ready software on our new Lithrone."
