Sappi reveals winners of its 10th Ideas that Matter initiative

Paper manufacturer Sappi has revealed the winners of its 10th Ideas that Matter initiative, with three of the 10 winners hailing from the UK.

They included John Corcoran, Dan Collins, Peter Higgins and Tim Sawford, all of Wire Design in London, Emmi Salonen, of London-based Emmi, and Marie Benstead, of Eve Design, also based in the capital.

The programme awards grants worth $1m (£0.6m) each year to graphic designers to help them in their chosen social, environmental or humanitarian causes.

Applicants have to submit print-based creative ideas that support their cause, along with a description of the campaign and its objective, cost estimates for implementation and information about the non-profit organisation involved.

Winners were selected from 113 applicants, including individual designers, design companies, in-house design departments, design teachers and students.
