Richard Edward gets Carbon Smart certified through EcoPrint London scheme

Richard Edward has become one of the first UK printing companies to become Carbon Smart certified after taking advantage of the BPIF's EcoPrint London scheme.

The Carbon Smart certification forms part of the 46-staff company's ongoing environmental effort and, according to project manager Tolu Akinyede, the London-based business is one of the first printers to get the standard through the BPIF's scheme.

She said: "Carbon Smart works alongside ISO 14001, and it's very practical and informative. It gives you an overview of your carbon footprint and makes you more aware of what you can do to improve it."

Richard Edward manufactures games and playing cards in addition to its core activity of fully-integrated B1 lithographic production.

Marketing director Louisa Moger added: "This certification is an excellent addition to our environmental achievements to date and we are now able to advise clients on how to continue to reduce the overall carbon footprint of their products."

The BPIF launched the EcoPrint London scheme in April. It encourages London-based printers to take advantage of a fully-funded route to environmental certification.

The initiative is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and is led by a Steering Group of London printers and stakeholders.
