The March 8 closure of the plant, which primarily produces softcover books, will impact 215 jobs.
In a statement sent to PrintWeek, Quad director of media relations Claire Ho said: "This is a straightforward business decision and is not a reflection on our employees’ performance. They have performed well over the years, delivering high quality service to our clients.
"However, ongoing softness in the economy and the book industry have created conditions that require us to take action to strengthen our long-term competitive position."
Ho added the affected employees will receive a separation package that includes pay and an extension of healthcare benefits and will receive assistance in looking for new work, including applying for work at other Quad facilities.
The Dubuque plant had been printing both hardcover and softcover books until August when hardcover production was ended, resulting in the loss of about 50-60 jobs.
