Responding to them takes a printer of the highest calibre, and this was certainly the judges’ consensus on Trinity Mirror Printing Watford’s work this year. The Daily Mirror remains the printer’s core business and biggest challenge, with 600,000 copies regionalised and produced across four press lines, where colour consistency is crucial, particularly for advertising. Also a source of pride is the printer’s work for The Independent Media Group, Trinity Watford’s largest contract customer. Not only was the printer instrumental in the paper’s transition to tabloid, but the past year has seen it take on the challenge of printing 190,000 copies of The Independent’s i each night. Also part of Trinity Watford’s impressive roster are The Racing Post and The Irish Independent on Sunday, which, printed within a one-hour time slot, is testament to Trinity’s efficiency in consistently meeting tight deadlines.
Commended – Newsprinters
With Newsprinters Broxbourne scooping this award last year, Newsprinters has once again proved itself a formidable force. Printing over three sites at Motherwell, Knowsley and Broxbourne, the group submitted The Falkirk Herald, The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Times to show the range of its output. The latter presents a particular challenge with its many broadsheet and tabloid sections.
