PrintWeek Awards 2012 Trainee of the Year - Thomas Dunn, Pensord

Thomas Dunn's enthusiasm for print - described as "infectious" by one judge - is evident in his entry for this packed category, in which he talks about the exhilaration of watching a printing press in action and the feeling of pride and accomplishment in seeing finished jobs being sent to customers.

Dunn's impact, since he joined Blackwood, Wales-based Pensord in August 2011, has been wide and varied, ranging from adding new ideas to the firm's paper requisition process, to a 23% reduction in mailing downtime. Dunn's family have all worked in the industry and he said printing will be "the topic of conversation around my own dinner table" for years to come.

Dominic Webster completed his training as a machine printer in January 2012 and has been praised for the all-round skills he has developed in data protection, web-to-print and finishing during a difficult period for the public sector, in which staff numbers in his department have been reduced due to budget cuts.
