Neckar Paper placed into owner-controlled administration

Neckar Paper, the German mill formerly a subsidiary of Steinbeis Temming and also known as Papierfabrik am Neckar, has been placed into an owner-controlled administration putting its 190 staff at risk.

The business produces recycled uncoated and coated papers for the web offset market. Its products are sold out of UK agency John Heyer Paper.

Commercial lawyers of the Stuttgart-based mill, Rudiger Mocker and Matthias Sierig, have been appointed after the administration process, which began on 28 July.

However, the mill has said it will be able to fulfil all current orders, and those going forward, until the end of the year.

It is hoped that a buyer can be found, and it is intended that a statement will be issued in September outlining the plans for the business.

It is currently unclear as to what caused the mill to be put into administration, as it is understood it had a successful August.

Papierfabrik am Neckar's Gemmrigheim mill was founded in 1895 and has a turnover of €80m (£64m).

It has two paper machines that produce coloured paper in sheets and reels, white coloured paper for heatset and coldset web offset, and lightweight coated heatset web offset paper.

John Heyer Paper represents Neckar Paper and Steinbeis in the UK. Its customers include web offset printers, publishers, mail order companies, holiday companies, converters, newspapers, paper merchants and print management companies. Managing director Chris Heyer was unable for comment.
