The French company, which is on stand 20/C624, has also used Ipex to launch a new five-in-one multifunction finishing system, the DF360. The machine can laminate, cut, slit, crease and perf in one pass and can accommodate sheet widths of up to 360mm and sheet lengths of 740mm, making it ideal for applications such as bookovers, brochures, business cards and photo books.
Victor Abergel, MGI vice-president, said that Ipex was the right time to launch this new product, which costs €48,000 (£41,000), which is targeted at the shortand medium-run market.
"With the same piece of equipment we can offer five different solutions to customers who are looking to bring added-value to a job," said Abergel.
In addition to the DF360 and its flagship Meteor DP60 Pro digital press, the company is also showing JETcard, a new digital inkjet card printing system that will be commercially available by the end of the year - a list price has yet to be set for the new machine.
Abergel claimed that the JETvarnish, which costs €179,000
and is also being shown on Konica Minolta's stand (9/DE340), is capable of printing spot UV at one-tenth of the cost of traditional methods. He also unveiled a new option to add a second bar of printheads for barcodes or variable data.
He added that MGI had enjoyed 13% growth in 2009 with more than 25 JETvarnish and 350 Meteor DP60s installed worldwide since Drupa. The firm has also appointed 30 new distributors globally since Drupa and is in discussions with a number of different companies about a UK replacement for former distributor GAE.
