Lick Group trebles size of premises and hints at acquisitions

Lick Group has trebled the size of its premises with a move to a 3,720sqm building and said it was considering potential acquisitions.

All three sites of the digital and direct mail company (Wakefield, Elland, Leeds) are in the process of relocating to a warehouse facility in Gildersome in Leeds in an effort to strengthen service, deliver economies of scale and reduce costs, the company said.

Group managing director Linden Kitson said that, despite the economic climate, he felt it was the perfect time to move and drive the company forward.

"Organisations that innovate and adapt at high speed, while trying to deal with the harsh realities that surround them, have a good chance of coming out the other side of the recession," he said.

However, he said that with the unpredictability of the market and its future, the main challenge was managing cash.

He added: "People are reticent to both lend money and to spend it. There is also a need to understand the people you work for better due to the uncertainty of the market."

While nobody is safe from the recession, Kitson said businesses need to be careful to work with reliable customers and suppliers.

The company forecast a turnover of £5m for 2009 and said that there was a definite potential for acquisitions, although nothing was set in stone at present.

Lick also plans to make additional appointments to its staff, following Tim Newton’s arrival as the firm’s new group client services director. He previously worked at JDA, WWAV and TNT.

Kitson said: "Many companies are cutting back, but if you can get the right people, you’re well on your way to building a successful company."

PrintWeek's SME Company of the Year Award winner in 2008, Lick Group has 63 staff and its clients include Durex, Bonmarché and Thomas Cook.
