In his inaugural speech, Crawford pointed out that Ipex has grown in size. He stated: "Ipex South Asia is 60% larger than what it was in 2009. The show is spread over an area 3000 sq/metres and has got 40% higher pre-registration than in 2009."
Crawford also stated that the printing industry in India is the world’s fastest growing print sector with a projected growth rate of 73%, whereas in countries like Russia and China are projected to grow at the rate of 69% and 60%, respectively.
Adding to Crawford’s view, Mehta said, that Ipex brings in a gamut of ideas and solutions. "Ipex is a great opportunity for Indian printers, who could not make it to the last international edition of it. With a specific section UK Pavilion designated for reconditioned production presses small printing entrepreneurs are sure to benefit from it." Wishing the exhibitors happy CYMK-ing, Mehta wrapped up his speech by introducing the upcoming printing and packaging show, Pamex 2011.
Ramu Ramanathan, group editor at Haymarket Media took the attendees through a quick browse of data about the Indian print industry collated by the PrintWeek India team. He stated that the Indian digital cut-sheet market is projected to be worth Rs 1500-1700 crore, and that it accounts for an estimated 2.2 billion digital impressions per year.
He added that tier-II and tier-III cities are emerging as the new markets for leading press manufacturers, both for new and reconditioned digital presses.
